What We Know About Spam and Why Outlook's Garbage Email Filter Isn't Working
If your email inbox is overflowing with communications this Monday, you are not alone. Microsoft Outlook users have been venting their rage online about what appears to be an issue with their junk blocker. As a result of this issue, users have received an excessive amount of spam, which would usually be redirected elsewhere.
For example, the Twitter user @bdsams shared a screenshot of what appeared to be his mailbox, which was clearly filled to the brim with obviously useless junk. We're talking about email addresses made up of random numbers, phony security warnings, and outright phishing efforts.
It is unclear what is causing the issue or when it will be resolved, if it can be resolved at all. Mashable contacted Microsoft in an attempt to obtain clarification and extra information; however, we did not receive a response right away. We will update the story whenever there is new information or remarks from the company.
When Tom Warren of The Verge woke up this morning, his Outlook mailbox already had twenty spam messages in it, and new ones continued to come throughout the morning. If you look at Twitter, you'll notice that Warren is far from alone in his sentiments.
Hallie Rubenhold, a British novelist and historian, expressed her thoughts on Twitter, stating, "I'm being barraged. Please, whoever you are, put a stop to it!"
People's inboxes, especially those related to their work lives, must be kept clean and organized at all times. We can only hope that more information and a solution to the apparent issue will be available very soon.
